MED seeks RM5 billion under 2020 budget to boost entrepreneurship
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Entrepreneur Development (MED) will propose an allocation of over RM5 billion under the upcoming 2020 Budget to further boost entrepreneurship in the country.
Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof said although a total of RM4.5 billion was made available for small and medium enterprises in the 2019 Budget, the higher allocation sought under the 202 Budget is to match the budget outlined in the National Entrepreneurship Policy (DKN) 2030.
"We already have a justification as to why the MED needs such a big budget. However, everything will depend on the government … it is for the committee to decide.
"I want to bring in a change to this 2020 budget ... in order to realise the Entrepreneurship Policy 2030 that is more focused, holistic and outcome-based," he told reporters after presenting prizes to the winners of Entrepreneurship World Cup (EWC) Malaysia 2019 here today.
Mohd Redzuan said the allocation would be focused on spending especially for training and human capital development.
He said his ministry intends to address the mismatch between demand and supply of local talent in the country as well as to create more job opportunities.
