2020 budget: NGOs want govt to focus on TVET, rubber prices

KOTA BHARU, Oct 9  -- The government has been urged to give more focus on efforts to empower Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in the 2020 Budget to be tabled by Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng on Friday.

Pertubuhan Suara Anak Muda Kelantan Darul Naim (Suara Kelantan) president Isham Sharuddin said TVET had now become an important field as most developed countries had put more emphasis on it.

"It is hoped that TVET will become one of the key points to be included in the coming budget as the field has proven helpful in improving the economy of many developed countries," he told Bernama here today.

Isham said the government should also intensify efforts to make TVET a primary choice in the future.

Meanwhile, Badan Bertindak Pekebun dan Getah chairman Izani Zakaria said he hoped that there would be good news for rubber tappers in the coming budget.

He said the drop in the price of the commodity as well as the rise in the prices of essential goods had affected many rubber tappers.

Izani also hoped that the government would provide an allocation to help rubber tappers carry out supplementary economic activities.
