LTSAS public private partnership will help draw in more tourists - MB

IPOH, Oct 12 --  The federal government's decision to invite proposals of Private Public partnership to upgrade the Sultan Azlan Shah Airport (LTSAS) in Ipoh will pave the way for the state government's efforts to increase passenger handling capacity.

Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu said the effort would also draw international flights directly from southern India and China, thus directly boosting the tourism sector and generate new investment in Perak.

He said the LTSAS upgrading project, including the widening of the track would also complement the Ipoh Railway Station's Integrated Development as an Ipoh City transportation hub through the Transit Oriented Development concept launched by Perak Sultan, Sultan Nazrin Shah on Thursday.

"To complement plans to develop public transport facilities in Perak, the state government will negotiate with the Federal Government to obtain part of the RM450 million allocation to provide electric buses in Ipoh City and other towns in the state," he said in a statement here today.

He said all public transport infrastructure projects would serve as catalysts in driving the state's economic development and creating more jobs for the people of Perak.

The private public cooperation invitation for LTSAS upgrading project was announced by  Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng in presenting the 2020 Budget yesterday.

The state government had previously planned to extend the 2 km runway of LTSAS by about 500 meters, to allow larger-sized aircraft to land.

Ahmad Faizal also thanked several announcements in Budget 2020 which directly involved Perak, including the construction of the new Kampar Hospital and a new rehabilitation center at a cost of RM500 million.

On the appointment of forest rangers from retired soldiers and Orang Asli to protect the flora and fauna of the state, and the services of mobile clinics which were also included in the budget, the menteri besar said it would greatly help the state government's efforts to look after the welfare the Orang Asli community.
