BERA, Oct 13  -- Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng has described the 2020 Budget, which he tabled in the Dewan Rakyat on Friday, as extraordinary because it has been praised as an “election budget”.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 (Bernama) -- The favourable provisions for digital adoption set out in the 2020 Budget denotes the government is actively encouraging more local businesses to move rapidly into the technology sphere, the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) said.

The government has been urged to review the rent-to-own (RTO) scheme announced in the 2020 Budget for the purchase of a first home priced up to RM500,000, as it is still considered very high for many prospective buyers.

Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today said the decision to lower the threshold on high rise property prices in urban areas for foreign ownership from RM1 million to RM600,000 was meant to reduce supply overhang of condominiums and apartments.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry (MoA) will use a big chunk of its increased allocation as announced during the tabling of the 2020 Budget to modernise the agriculture sector.
